what the hell is meant by 7484 crank? does it have something to do with VVT?

and by upper half, does that mean heads are included?

Short block means it's the bottom part of the engine. Block, all internals, no heads, intake, exhaust, ect.

There's small print in the front of the crank, right behind the dampener (you can see it through the timing cover). I have yet to see a non-7484 3500, and have had my fair share of them apart

It may still have a steel crank, 7484 are the last four numbers of the part number that can be seen behind the balancer retaining bolt on the end of the crank snout for the steel crank. Some of the later steel cranks do not have the number I.D. in that location, at least one if not both of my 3900 cranks doesn't. The balancer bolt is torque to yield I believe since it is not to be reused according to GM.

i'd rather accelerate hard in a straight line, instead of sliding sideways. i had a 4 wheel drift once. all ended well, but in the wrong lane!
