  • How much is a 284 5-spd worth???

I have a 284 trans from a 91 Cutlass. The motor had about 103K on it when I pulled the motor/trans. The motor had a oil problem, looked like head gasket. I think that's why it was in the yard. Oil everywhere. Anyway. I pulled the motor, trans, and I may offer the trans up for sale. I understand they are "rare" or at least hard to find. I also understand that they are expensive. You have to send them back to the factory to get them worked on etc.... parts are expensive and they have a unique clutch system, pull vs push.

Bottom line, what are they worth? What should I be asking?

    Thanks

do u have the axels/cables etc with it?? that dramatically affects the price. yes they are hard to find but the rest of the hardware is just as hard to find.

Sorry for not getting back. I have axles but that is it. No cables, no slave cylinder etc... Never thought about getting it. I have learned that lesson, from now on I grab everything.

        284 worth

I don't know the actual value, but I can tell you that(at most salvage yards that I've found) they run $1200-$1400 with around 42,000 on them and come with like a 90 day Warranty. I am looking for one right now but I cannot afford to get another one. I got a Remanned one from GM for like $2800 and didn't get to drive it until 14 months later. I didn't see a problem cause GM told me that there was a 2 year warranty on the remanned trannies. They didn't, however, realize that the tranny was a manual, for which they only have a one year warranty. So the tranny turned out to be a lemon and I have a shit 284 with like 3400 miles on it. But anyway, you tell me what you would want for the tranny and your location and I'll let ya know if I'll buy it. How did the tranny shift before? Thanx,
        Kenny

There that better Juglenaut, sorry for the idiocy, kinda tired when I did that.

??? your wording is fourth grade...Towards the end...

Some how I really don't think it was actually remaned...As Getrag can only remanufacture these and that has been sometime ago like in the mid to late 90's that this program was call off. I would say someone attempted at rebuilding yours and failed....

A tag on the tranny should say 'remanufactured by Getrag for GM' and should have a serial number. What is even more fishy is that Getrag then warrantied the transmission gears and diff for 3 years 36,000 miles.

Only if the tranny has a remanufactued tag with serial by Getrag:

Less than 25km 1200$ with new clutch pack 1500$
          30km 700$ with new clutch pack 1000$
          61-80km 500$ with new clutch pack 700$

There are two different revisions of the 284...284 and 284HD
          I am back
