OK, so my 3100 that I have been putting miles on since I was 15 years old has finally come to the end of it's long tired and glorious life.
My 1994 GrandAm is my first car. I have owned many cars since. But I LOVE this grocery-getter turned trophy-winner and I need a good show motor that will hold its own against some of the new import designs. I used to eat honda's for breakfast but now I can't seem to keep up with a 2008 si. I am tired of being all show and no go.
I am pulling the engine soon and plan to repaint the engine bay and replace the wire harness.
What engine's should I consider?
What are the pros an cons of each?
Has any one done this to this car before?
Where can I get one already built, or performance internals?

. 3400 is "basically" bolt in, 3500 is harder, and everything from that just gets harder. Never heard of a northstar swap, but heard of a couple S/C 3800s. I pesonally just like going the 3400 route because a lot of people have, so there is a lot of information out there on how to do it, and how to make them faster. But the best upgrade overall, in my opinion, is a 5 speed swap. The getrag 282s are easy to find, quite a bit of different gearing for them, pretty easy to get aftermarket clutches, and a lot harder to blow up than the autos.
