Hopefully this won't leak. Also got the extra hole on the RWD timing cover plugged that would otherwise leak on a FWD engine.

That's the reason that I've been reluctant to get into working on cars for a living. Very nice welds. Someone has a high power TIG welder and some patience.
By chance is there slope to the pan so the new areas drain back?
I was looking at a similar mod on my 3900 pan but wasn't sure of the results of welding plate to the cast material. If only my welder had 50 more amps.

I haven't TIG welded since high school, this was done by a professional welder friend of mine. The machine shop he's at is really busy, so I try not to bother him with my favor projects too often.
I'll need to get my own welder eventually - just a MIG for starters, but I'd love to re-learn TIG.

Still trying to come up with a transmission. I have a friend that's a side-job mechanic that has a lead on one, but the guy who owns it wants market price (~$300 I think).
There's a cosmetically damaged and high mileage '98 S10 on craigslist for $700 that has what I need and may be a better deal (per LeMons rules, you can sell bits to get back under the $500 limit). Then I'd also have a 2.2L laying around for y'know, whatever.
I can't do the "creative accounting" if I just buy from a salvage yard. I'm already "cheating" if I use this $500 LX9, but I THINK the judges will let it slide if it's in a more-or-less unmodified 1970 Opel Kadett. I'm sure they'll let me race it even if I get some wrist-slap penalty laps. But who cares about that, I wouldn't win anything anyway.'98 Volvo V90 - Ford 5.0 swap in progress

Did a little more tinkering today. Cut out the old exhaust. Cleaned the crap out of the trunk, removed the original fuel tank and set a big Isuzu tank in place. Test-fit an old 2.8L Trooper engine with my T5. No drama there. Now I need to start sawing and test-fitting in the car.

Got called off the job this evening, but I got the firewall sawed out and test-fitted an engine (old 2.8 from a Trooper). Got all but the last six inches the transmission tunnel removed, so I'll be able to fit the T5 in there soon. It's going to be a little cozier in there than I thought. This is a good tool.

An old 2.8L for the test-fit.

Looks like there's a lot more space in that engine bay than is actually usable.
