  • Strut Problem???

Hey, guys. I've got an issue. I have a banging/clunking noise coming from the area of my passenger rear strut tower in my 94' GP. It make's the noise when ever I go over larger bumps. Sounds like a toasted strut to me, however the struts on my car are 2 year old KYB GR-2's and they only have about 25000Km's on them.

    Whatchathink?

OK, next question. When buying the rear mount, it doesn't come with that foam rubber bumber piece that goes over that top shaft. You know thte piece that prevents the strut from bottoming out. Is that a GM only part and how does it attach to the strut mount?

OK, I changed the rear strut mount today. $45.00 later, that wasn't it. The strut is, in fact fucked. These are two year old KYB GR-2's fucking crist, they only have 30000kms on them. Does anybody have experience claiming warranty on these?

That's very odd. I've never heard of the GR2's crapping out... at least they have a warranty on them. Where did you buy it from? Locally or online?

Well, shit crapping out is what happens to me. Give me a product if you want it to fail. Anywho, I got them locally. I just have to see if I still have the receipt for them. I have moved twice since they were installed, so who knows where it could be.

I have had KYB GR-2s all the way around on my car. It's been on there for about a year and a half now. I used them to try and hold up to the abuse of autocross and the Tail of the Dragon runs. Mine are alright, but I wish I had some Koni adjustable struts or something stiffer and adjustable.

Here's an update to my strut problem. As I said before one of my GR-2's crapped out. But as far as warranty goes I found my old reciept. Plus, I found a distributor here that replaces them over-the-counter. Bonas!!

I call them Jounce kits, and all the rear strut mounts I bought had this jounce in the mount kit.

I am not sure about KYB mount kits.

Yeah, I found out about the "Jounce kit", it's like $300.00 CDN and you can only buy them in pairs. I don't know of anybody besides GM that sells them. If something cheaper isn't available I am just going to coilovers.

Very easy, but you will need the special wrench to remove the nut that holds the lower part of the strut in. I made mine, but it takes a little work. The now struts come with new nuts so you can use them to make the tool.0

cool ive made tons of custom tools before so that should be easy enough, is it true you can do it from the engine bay just from taking off that black plate? i dont believe it but i guess anything is possible with these cars.

Yep, three bolts and you are at the strut. The top nut is was a real bitch. I had to use an impact on mine.

but isnt there a mount up top that you have to take out by dropping the whole strut tower?
