  • 282 axles

well im done with autozone axles for good, snaped one last time i was at the track and i did it again today. i didnt even get one run or make it off the line!! my solid mounts didnt prevent it like i had hoped..

im not gonna get stock axles, i know people say there good for 300+hp but im not having any luck and i know i dont have that much. hoosiers prolly dont help tho..

    options:
jbodyperformance.com - any1 have experience with there axles? i would have to ditch my intermediat shaft if i got those..

dutchman axles - this is a local shop that can make custom axles, not sure on a price or even how long it would take. will call on monday tho.. any1 have experience with any custom axles?

any more options? i would think with the fiero guys we would have a huge aftermarket for them but i dont know of any other than jbodyperformance

driveshaft shop. they make custom high-HP axles for use. they are about 6-700 bucks a pair though. so be prepared.

nothing wrong with factory. Mars is running extremely low 12's on 200k miles stockers

if you are only pushing that much then go for stockers. search car-part.com for a set of low-mileage ones. i have some laying around as spares, they just need new boots and stuff. but, i've broken 2 oreilly axles, and never a factory. Dave is running 13 flat at 100+ mph on slicks on his 140k stockers, he said they even click around turns sometimes, and they haven't broke yet.

ive thought about that, checked GM parts direct and they want 600 for one axle.. may have to go the the jy this weekend for a set to try out. problem with that is if i do break one im screwed and gotta get towed home yet again.. and i just really hate used parts

jbp finally got back to me, they have axles available with and without the intermediat shaft. they told me without has less friction and less weight but you gain torque steer

there gonna get back to me on a price on both of em. i kinda like the idea of those axles

is it worth keeping the shaft or ditching it? im not sure how the hell i would get the intermediat shaft out with the lsd. no place to grab it

called a local place about custom axles, it would be about $400 starting, then i would have to find a place to make the cv joints... screw that. jbp it is

im ordering them tomorrow i think. what do i order??
              with intermediat shaft
              or
              without intermediat shaft

              im thinking with out

woody on bstuff has axles from driveshaft shop and they have more of a reputal name compare to jbp as they have screwed people over b4 just ask around on bstuff and v624.com and theyll tell you the same. just be more careful who you pick and keep the intermediate shaft as theat what helps get rid of the torque steer not the other way around

but do i really have to worry about torque steer with my lsd? that got rid of i all except on wet/dry mix surfaces

Yes you do have to worry about torque steer. If it deflects it will want to pull even if both wheels are turning. Plus it could wear out the LSD more...

Once I had a worn out engine mount and when I stepped on it, I almost hit the curb several times. It was that bad. lol

so how exactly does the intermediat shaft help? i never understood that because even without it there is a support (on factory axles)

Remember when weba swapped the isuzu trans into his W26 black car? He said he had massive torque steer cause of the un-even length axles. It essentially adds a support so that the axle appears shorter and has less leverage to wobble/move under load. Which keeps the engine/trans from shifting. Think of the axle as a long pry bar to move the engine and trans around, now shorten that and it doesn't do as much.

I don't know that's how I perceive it at least. Just makes sense to have as much support as possible if you ask me.

but the intermediat shaft is just like another axle. so it would be the same length..

i read a post on jbody.org about jbp. i just emailed the driveshaft shop lol

it's not just like another axle, really. it's more liek an extension of the differential. it doesn't have any joints on it like an axle does, and it's solid mounted at both ends, so that the axles can be equal length, i.e. les torque steer. one of the things GM did right.

plus you'll snap that long axle. imagine taking a brand new pencil and snapping it in half. easy. now shorten it WAY down, and try to snap it. lots harder, because you have less leverage. it's the same concept, just with a twisting motion, not side-to-side.
