yea the flywheels are matched to the tranny. The lightweights are for 282's. U could spend the money on a lightweight and find out if the clutch will bolt to it or not. All the 60v6 flywheels will interchange.Originally posted by steevnz34 View PostSo you are saying these guys that have fieros with the 3.4 dohc and are using fidanza aluminum flywheels are full of it? or is the flywheel matched to the tranny and not the engine?Robert

Since when? That also contradicts your previous statements since "the 60v6 flywheels will interchange" meaning a flywheel for a 282 car would fit a 284 car... Considering you need your flywheel to bolt to your crank, and tooth spacing to be correct on the ring gear for the starter to mesh right, I would say they are more machined for the engine than the tranny.Originally posted by 94GPGTP View Postyea the flywheels are matched to the tranny.
The Rockauto.com listing for a Rhino Pac flywheel for a 92 Z34 (284) lists these vehicles that their flywheel will fit in:

CHEVROLET LUMINA EURO (1990 - 1993)
CHEVROLET LUMINA Z34 (1991 - 1993)
CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP (1994 - 2003)

PONTIAC GRAND PRIX MCLAREN 1990
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SE (1989 - 1992)
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX STE (1990 - 1993)
And we all know, any W body that got a manual that didn't have a 284 was a 282 (which would account for the 89-90 GPs) since the 284 was only used from 91-93 (in the Z34, GTP, STE and Cutty INTL.).Last edited by pocket-rocket; 09-25-2009, 02:03 PM.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

You MUST remove the wieght that's on the flywheel though, Thats how the fiero guy's do it because the 3.4 DOHC is internally balanced.Originally posted by steevnz34 View PostSo you are saying these guys that have fieros with the 3.4 dohc and are using fidanza aluminum flywheels are full of it? or is the flywheel matched to the tranny and not the engine?
I wouldn't go with that light wieght flywheel if your using it in a w-body because of the wieght of the car VS. the power output, unless you have a lot of power, otherwise you will regret it after. I've seen it first hand.

that heavy ass flywheel makes for easy launches in the G6(but the super low 1st helps too). all 1st gen and 1.5 gen Ws are lighter than the G6 (IIRC), but some of the Gen 2/3 are heavier.Originally posted by HayesPerformance View PostI wouldn't go with that light wieght flywheel if your using it in a w-body because of the wieght of the car VS. the power output, unless you have a lot of power, otherwise you will regret it after. i will try to bold my spare 282 pressure plate to my 284 flywheel.. if it does then the lightweight 282 fylwheel will work on the 284..Robert

Ok so heres my input.. The 282 Pressure plate bolts to the 284 Flywheel.. So therefor the flywheels are the same.. But... Now with the Fidenza Lightweight it has a removeable insert.. The clutch disc for the 282 is smaller than the 284 and the 284 uses more of the flyweel than the 282.. So is the insert for the lightweight big enough? i see that the wear marks on the 284 flywheel are pretty close to the edge where the bolts are for the pressure plate and since the 282 disc is smaller its further away from the bolts for the pressure plate.. Thats y im thinking possibly the insert might not be big enough.. Heres some pictures..

I would like to also add.. All these Fiero guys are using 282's not 284's so the Fidenza is avaiable for them to use on the 282.. There has to be a reason why they dont make it for the 284 and even so the flywheels are the same why is it not listed with the 282 vehicles then??..Originally posted by steevnz34 View PostSo you are saying these guys that have fieros with the 3.4 dohc and are using fidanza aluminum flywheels are full of it? or is the flywheel matched to the tranny and not the engine?Robert
