  • GTP 5-speed known as X trans on Vin #

Hello, I was able to purchase a 1991 grand prix for $300.00. Body and interior is in great shape but the trans-axle was gone. Now I figured out why it was donated. I found 5-speed trans-axle that bolts up to the 3.4L. No axles or CV axles though. So I found one axle in the trunk, drivers side. I ordered new CV Axle for both sides, they are exactly the same. So my Question is how does the driver side CV axle go on. Is there a small axle that goes between the trans-axle and CV axle and who has one. Thanks

Looks like this, and best of luck finding one.

Remember hearing about the 91 blowing an axle after about 800 miles on the car after the 5 speed swap? Yeah, that's my old axle adapter and new axle w/ a new adapter. I still have that old fuct up one around as a momento.

          momento

LOL I really can see mh car breaking an axle soon. That is why I really do not want to get bigger rims, drag radials, or slicks. My CV joints would become dust really fast.

Remember KickinZ broke both CV joints on his second run after his headers. But his ultra long primaries also produced a lot more low end torque.

My 18" rims on the 92 are only 1.5 pounds heavier then stock a peice Only other problem is the 13" front brake rotors are probably at least 20 pounds a peice.

Mind if I continue to link it now that I know whose it is?

FYI----that axle adapter is available locally in Milwaukee.... for a mere $60 a pop

I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Hey, not a problem. I wasn't pissed, I just thought it was funny that it popped back up, lol.

Bigger as in wider...If these tires hook up when i do a drop from 4k(that is how I race it), it will make rice a roni out of my CVs.

I dropped the hammer at 4000-4500 this past Friday at the drag strip in the 92. Barely any tire spin at all thanks to my BFGoodrich T/A gforce KDW's. 245/40 ZR 18 is the size. And all I can say is they grip. My clutch doesn't feel the same now after beating on the poor car at the track, lol. A link to the tires:

Josh (oldskoolgp) had these on his 92 Z34 5 speed:

I was impressed with them. Then I got my gforces. Also I thought John (KickinZ) only broke one axle? I already changed my drivers? side axle, and now the other has been making noises and I am starting to worry about it. I remember the one I replaced had gotten bad enough to hear a clunk when I would shift, due to the stress being removed and then reapplied to the axle joint.

I talked to him after beating his ass in Missousi , and he said when he launched it tore up one CV, and when he hit 2nd, the other went to shit from all 210+hp going to one joint instead of both.

I would have thought that if one CV got fuct, all the power would have gone to that one, none to the other, and tore up the diff/tore up CV, kinda like if you get an open diff'd RWD car in the mud. One tire spins, the other doesn't.
