4T65E from an AWD van, or SUV, such as the Rendezvous. Of course, you'll also have to mess with the PCM, as most current trannies (regardless if you use GM, Ford, whatever) are computer controlled.

RWD is relatively easy. You can get T5's with the correct bellhousing to allow for a FWD 60V6 to bolt up to them. AWD would be the harder part.

but that would work with a transverse engine. or would i have to rotate my engine.

So you are wanting to keep it transverse, but make it RWD?!?

yes. i was hoping to. i didnt think there was enough room in my beretta to rotate it.

I don't think there is any way possible to keep it transverse and make it RWD, unless you mount the engine/trans in the trunk- a la Fiero style. The other option, as Brad mentioned is to get a T5, turn your engine, and beat the living tar out of the firewall with a hammer if the engine doesn't fit. That or extend the front end of your car some. Either way, you are probably already in over your head with the task ahead of you if you decide to go for it.

there is no way to get an adapter for say an escape 4wd trans to put on a 3400 and just use the rear driveshaft. cuz they are transverse. or and adapter for a awd 4g63 trans cuz i know for sure they are transverse. or any other transverse trans for that matter.

How many people do you see do such a wild retrofit? That is why there is no off the shelf adapters around. You could have one custom made, but then you have to worry about things like how far the input shaft goes into the end of the crank, pilot bearing/bushing size, clutch disc/pressure plate/hydraulics. It would be far easier to take the driveline out of a Pontiac Aztek AWD and go automatic and cram it in your car than it would to adapt a Mitsu or Ford driveline. To do what you want to do, you had better have some mighty deep pockets for lots of custom one off machining and fabrication. Besides, the drivelines you mention really are FWD transaxles grafted to a special differential that has an extra output on it to drive the rear end. Yes, it's the same concept as the Pontiac, but at least with the Pontiac, you KNOW it would bolt right to the engine, and then you could use the PCM from the Pontiac so you know it would all run/shift/function fine and correctly since they came with 3400's. Believe me, I heavily considered doing this to my 92 to make it AWD, not just RWD a long time ago but realized it would be a huge headache to deal with, not to mention tons of fabrication to make it roadworthy and safe. If you really are up to it, I certainly wouldn't rule out turning the engine, going with a RWD transmission and extending the front. Tons of people have put Chevy V8's in Chevettes by stretching the front, along with someone putting a Cummins inline 6 diesel in a Ranger by way of the same method. It can be done and can be done so it doesn't look like a hack job as well.

If those 2 transmissions are set up anything like the Aztek/Rendevous (or any other Versatrak setup), then it isn't true AWD anyway. It is still primarily FWD, but power is transferred to the rear diff when the front starts to slip. As far as RWD Berettas go...

I remember a really really all out race Beretta, tubbed, caged, ect that got posted a long time ago. It was a really nice shade of yellow, IIRC.

That is true awd. That is what it is supposed to do, only rear when needed. 4wd is supposed to be always on, or when ever you turn it on. But yea I'm fine with awd if I can find one that comes in manual.
