98Malibu I think you just happen to have a streak of luck, I'm sorry but I'm 100% positive that rasp would be the same or worse if I put on some magnaflow mufflers in place of my aerochambers. Also you can't just say "that muffler is bad on a V6", there are so many differences in engines that make different sounds that an assumption like that could never be made.
Heck I have headers and a cam, which automatically makes it sound much different than a stock 3100/3400.
I expected some rasp, but wasn't sure how much so I skipped the resonator. If the resonator can clear up the rasp on 19cutlass's car, then I will use one as well.
I wanna do a cutout. Maybe when I go see the guy about it I'll ask him about a resonator too. Anyone seen the cats that Wbodystore sells?
I guess it's "raspy" but that's just the 60degree sound, Personally i could care less about the exhaust sound with no load.. It sounds f'n mean under load.
I'll post the vid of it on the dyno as soon as i get it.

If those are Thundercats or the equivalent, steer way clear of them. Avoid them like the Bubonic Plague. I installed some of those on a customers car to make it legal. The brick broke apart in less than 2 months.

Maybe so. All I know is it worked on both cars and that's the info I'm givin' ya. Whether you take heed to it or not is your ballpark to play in....lol. I'm going to make a couple more videos of my car so you can get a better idea of how it sounds tomorrow. It will be idling/reving/under load/cruising/WOT/inside/outside. Remember, mine has no resonator, stock cat and stock small ass piping. My tip is a 2.25"in/dual 3" out and the muffler is a 5x8x14 Magnaflow offset in/center out.

Thats why yours doesnt rasp at all... STOCK cat is restrictive and SMALL PIPE does not rasp. Your comparing apples to oranges with the imformation your presenting with your mufflers. Your set up will not rasp with ANY muffler.
BTW, that resonator got send out today so Ill let ya know in a few days!

Did you not read what I put earlier?? It had a 40 series on it and rasped out the ass......droned really bad too. Small pipe rasps just as bad as big pipe. Ever hear those redneck trucks w/the small ass 2" pipes and glasspacks?? They rasp and pop out the ass too because of the mufflers AND the small ass pipe. Same as those dumbass import ricers who put a big fart can muffler on their stock ass tiny pipe. If the cats were what stop the rasp, then why did it rasp out the ass w/the 40 series on my Malibu WITH a resonator and on my Taurus with and without a resonator? The Taurus was not as bad with the resonator tho. It was mainly when it was cold. After it warmed up, it went away. When I pulled the resonator off, it was unbearable. Taurus has very restrictive cats too.....4 of them. So.....you're still not telling me anything different. For some reason, fwd V6 engines that have the exhaust merged unequal distances between banks rasp more than other engines. I think it's because of the timing of the pulses as they go from front manifold and travel towards the rear manifold where they meet in the same spot but different distances from each other. Like it takes X amount of time for the exhaust pulse from the front side to travel towards the backside and meet up with the pulse from back there. By the time it reaches that point, the back pulse is almost fixing to leave the head. They arrive almost at the same time, giving our cars the "funny" V6 sound. They sound like outboard engines to an extent....lol. The Taurus exhaust setup is identical in design, just it goes under the car to meet in the rear. It's not quite as far a distance from front to rear that way tho. Mitsubishi Eclipse has the exhaust meet right in between the banks, they sound really nice. Has almost an I-6 sound to them. Our engines would sound very similar if the exhaust could meet 50/50 distance between banks/pulses.
Hey PCGUY, how do those aerochambers sound while cruising? Are they loud? Anydrone? My ultraflo is straight through and quiet but those aerochambers sound good!

Every car that Ive heard rasp has had an aftermarket exhaust with either a larger exhaust pipe, no cat/no resonator. All the stock setups Ive heard ( even with a different muffler ) dont rasp. Thats including many other cars that just GM v6.... just speaking from what Ive heard.
Here is a video of a stock 3400 in a 92 Sunbird with a 2.5" downpipe, Catco hi-flow cat and a Hooker Aerochamber Crossflow muffler with dual 3" x 18" tips.. on the dyno
