Or whatever else has that DOCH 3.6 for that matter. I'm really wanting to go test drive one of the brand new Chev Malibus.

Since there is a four and six cyl DOCH, does that spell the end of times for the pushrod engine from GM for midsize cars or what?

I've heard the stock LTZ will be putting down 258 hp, which when compared to it's class compitition is the lowest, but shit!!! compared to my malibu with a paltry 160 or something... I gotta drive one.

Im also wondering how reliable these things are going to be... first thing I did when I bought the malibu was LIM gasket, just to get that out of the way.

i'm a half bottle of rum into the night, i've been correcting myself for hours.. I guess i'm just that bored.

        Sounds like a fun swap!

Pushrods will never die, DOHC engines are nice but with the VVT stuff on the new 3900/3500 they'll be around for a few years atleast... iirc the 3.4 DOHC was only around for like 6 years before GM dropped it.

I got to drive a Buick LaCross with the 3.6 VVT. I was pretty impressed with it. Not to the point of wanting to swap it into my Cutlass Supreme, but still enough that if I needed a new car, I would not let that stop me from getting one.

I will admit that I like how they did the exhaust crossover on it. I found it FASCINATING (hell, just about ANYTHING that is different that the stock setup is a + in my book).

ive drivin quite a few of the 3.6 dohc's from the caddys. not impressed. noisy, lag from the electronic tb, and washy performance. to say the least, gm needs to work on it some more. the 300hp version from the cts was fun, once you had it moving. maybe it was the vehicle it was in, but i think the engine needs more devolopment.

it seems like any engine in a regular car will disappoint you somewhat... but for something like wireless throttle, is that not something that can be altered by way of tuning?
I keep forgetting about this electronic throttle on new cars... not liking that idea.... like new F-150s' i've driven... step on the pedal and wait... then vrooom.
Anyways... it seems that it might be a little more of a challenge to modify these newer engines.

Definitely the vehicle, since it weighs like 4000 pounds.

Its also the fact that the factory limits the amount of torque you can get in certain situations to minimize wheelspin. Plus most companies want to give you a "smooth" transition feeling when hitting the gas, instead of the neck breaking acceleration that "i" like.

I haven't driven and "by wire" car thats felt natural yet. maybe if they made a 1:1 ratio and get rif of all the torque management i'd be happy.

putting that 3.6L DIG engine in one of our cars would be a blast though. 300hp out of the box and mad fuel economy especially for us people with the 2700lb cars

My moms 07 caravan is drive by wire. The pedal is so touchy I cant even take off smooth from a redlight. Its probly just something to get used to. BUt I didnt notice any lag at all, I actually thought it was pretty responcive. I havent driven any newer gm's with DBW.
