  • Turbo 3500 Malibu concept

Anyone ever hear about this car? It appears all of the performance mags have fallen under one roof now and the search engines are either terrible or purposely restricted from provding the best results. I remember it being much better. I can't get a publish date for the article to see if it's pre or post 3500 debut.

Well, the first comment in the forum about this article is dated March 13, 2006, but that's only an indication. It looks like it was during the birth of the 3500 with them saying the chambers were opened up and the bore increased. Makes me think it was a worked 3400 because they didn't mention the rod length, big end increase, or the composition of the rods/crank.

It was pre-3500 cause it's in a pre-malibu-max car and the 3500 wasn't in that style car.

Also I recall the plenum looking like a 3400 only saying 3500 on top... So they had not fully developed the 3500 at the time.

The pics that Dave posted are from a Grand Am autocross concept, which I think was at SEMA in 2003, maybe? It was intercooled and reported to make 300HP.
The Malibu Cruiser engine bay was very similar.....except no intercooler, and more polishing and chrome instead of red loom and silver powdercoat.

Found one....here's the engine bay of the 2001 Malibu Cruiser show car:

would that be a 3400 with the 3500 block specs or is that just a different 3500 plenum? i like that one better! doesen't look like something you would cook on!

It's a pre production 3500. No idea what the heads are like, but the bore I'm sure is the same as a 3500, but this was before they came up with the improved box 3500 plenum.

                      Mine doesn't look that bad

Don't mean to be an ass or insult you, but it does kinda look like a George Foreman.

Without some phenolic spacers after a long ride you can cook something on those suckers...
