So my friends 3.1 motor in his 200? malibu siezed up. i have a spare older 3.1 motor from a 91 olds. Can i just swap the intake, valve covers and all the bolt on stuff and drop in that motor or are they too different?

i would imagine you could. i would swap the heads too. that may be the only way to get the intake plenums on

When you say 200?, do you mean it's 2000+ 3.1 in a malibu? If so, then no, stuff from a 3.1 91 olds will not work. They are totally different generation engines, the 91 is called the 3.1 but after 94 they became 3100 motors, much different heads/intakes/etc.

Just get a 3100 from the junkyard and swap it in, their a dime a dozen. Or even a 3400 if he wants some more powah for a bit of extra work.

i always thought you could swap out the 3.1 heads for some 3100 heads and if you do that the intakes would fit.. weird

The 3.1 cannot be controlled by obd2 due to the SFI. You must stay 3100 or <.

It'll work but throw multiple trouble codes, lack of a cam position sensor and a 24x crank sensor would be the big ones.

bad idea, just grab another 3100 for it.

all this aside from that fact that it's illegal to put an older motor into a newer car. :P i mean if the design is the same it's ok but you can't put that old of a motor into that new of a car. it's 3x00 or bust, according to the feds lol
