True. There are times (rarely) that I wish I hadn't gotten the car in the first place, but usually I can see the true possibilities. I truly think this car can be a daily driver. If I put this engine into the car, it has the posibility of outlasting the rest of the car. I want to see if I can do this.

When I see something (like a beat up, noisy car) that someone else really likes, sometimes I can't believe that someone could like something so ugly. However, I then think about how that thing just might be that persons pride and joy.

It also makes a difference what kind of car it is. For example, some people might call me a nerd for wanting to fix up and maintain a 1996 Oldsmobile. I see it more than just a grandpa car, I see it as an escape from speeding tickets,LOL. I also see it as the first car I have kept in my ownership for more than a two years.

What I'm saying is, I understand where you're coming from. We all keep less than desireable things and try to make them better.

That's one of my big gripes with the way people look at the world today. Sure there are lots of ways where you can buy something new cheaper than fixing something old but what happens to the old item? You throw it 'away'? Last time I checked the earth has a finite volume and there is no such thing as 'away'. On top of that it usually takes some sort of resources in order to create something new. Even though it isn't a direct 'bolt-on' to swap out engines to something newer, it can be done and it doesn't require a ton of custom fabrication. I'm not a tree hugger but I find it hard to 'throw away' a car that can have a low mileage drivetrain installed for under a few grand.

Not to mention the fact that there is no such thing as a new Oldsmobile, so my car is irreplaceable to me. Now that Pontiac is in the same line of fire I think it's great to see someone breathe new life into an old car like that. Also considering the fact that the fuel economy of a 60* car is generally no worse than the average fuel economy of a new vehicle, it seems to be both environmentally friendly as well as wallet friendly in the long term.

Any progress on the swap? A picture is said to be worth a thousand words!

I made some progress. I got the new "heart" unloaded from the back of my dad's truck. LOL.

I will try to post some pictures of the engine either tomorrow or Monday.

Sounds like my truck. Leaky exhaust, shot shocks, busted bushings, severed shackle mount, broken body mounts. At least those are all behind me now (minus the exhaust which needs a new cat and new muffler), and it drives/rides MUCH MUCH better and I'm a happy camper I've said it before. I used to not be able to stand Fords, but my Ranger is now what keeps me from bashing them all the time.

Being a 2wd and 5 spd, I'd say most likely it has a 2.3L 4 cyl. Those are bulletproof motors, when they run. LOL. My '87 Mustang that I used to have had a 2.3L. When it ran, it ran good.

my father in law has one... put it in 5th and hold the throttle to the floor while at 55... about a mile later you'll be at 60. decent fuel economy though.

TBI 4-cylinders aren't my favorite kind of truck motor...

Yah. When my Mustang ran, it got fairly good fuel economy. 21-24 mpg hwy.

fit? it should, but the ports don't match very well. so they would work, they just don't flow for shit...
