Is the 2.8l really what I want?

Blast it yes but also seeing how it has that cast weight you'll definitely have to have it checked and most likely milled off and re-balanced to neutral.

So what do you think about this? It has no wear on the teeth, just the rust issues and that cast weight. I can throw the thing in the glassbead cabinet and clean up this side

Is there a slicker bellhousing that could be used, or should I just pick up one of those dual-pockets & shave off the external mount, as Caffeine did.
What about this Camaro bellhousing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/380901977849...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Anyone who does that shouldn't be working on a car... LOLOriginally posted by neophile_17 View PostOK I wasn't as clear as I should've been. If the balance was verified to be neutral I would run it. Simply milling or grinding off the pads and hoping for the best is not a path I would take even if it's worked for others.

I am using a flywheel from a 1984 2.8L on my 3.4L hybrid. Took the flywheel to a shop, had the weight removed and neutral balanced. About $35.00 out the door. It's not an issue.

Take the flywheel off and flip it over. If you see extra material "pads" cast into the back side it's an early unbalanced flywheel. I've read about people machining them off but I would never try it myself. Awesome build!

So this is usable? It would be nice if SOME parts from the old 2.8L could be reused.

Absolutely! I'm pretty sure that I can use the oil filter in that position. Doesn't seem like anything will be in the way on the car.
