  • Anyone still looking for a UD pulley?

If someone is still looking for one of these, I found a site that makes them. 15% UD. seems most of the N/A pulleys make 8-10 wheel HP. http://www.aspracing.com/frame.htm
search in street pulleys under smaller domestics. they only list for a beretta 3.1.

Will the beretta 3.1L UD work on the Grand AM GT. It is the same liter and bascially the same motor?

Nope, because the 3x00 motors have a 24x sensor with a sensor ring on the pulley, and without it your idle will be very erratic and set a code.

yeah should work fine with any 3.1mpfi as they don't have the 24x sensor and ring.

Junk. They are not a damper and will lead to premature engine wear and failure.

A guy on 2kmc has had his underdrive pulley on his car for 140,000 miles now. He's got no complaints at all.

ahh yes! the damper no damper argument again. i've seen more and more people without a damper and having no problems. there is a guy that is using a non-damper UD pulley that's doing low 12's in the 1/4 (400+HP) and turns over 7000rpm. he inspects his bearings regularly and has seen no sign of any problems. i think maybe the newer cars don't need them as much as the older cars due to better material and design.

i don't see why not. you just have to take that 24X ring out of the original pulley and put it in the 3.1 UD. i did that with my 97 lumina 3100 and all was good. i used silicone sealer and put a few center punch divits to keep the ring in place. there was a problem with the aluminum getting hot and expanding enough to allow the ring to fall out.

yes you can, just transfer the 24X ring from the old pully as i stated above.

do I need to buy the kit with both the udp and the alternator pulley? What do i do about the belt size?

AFAIK, i know the underdrive pulleys for imports if not balanced or dampened will destroy the motor. I read that on the stealth's that a certain type of pulley was no good. Whereas the 60*V6 are internally balanced, I haven't seen anyone post that they screwed anything up. I believe it could lead to premature rod bearing wear causing a spin, but i'm not the 60* guru here so I'm just stating what i know.

i have just the crank pulley and used the stock belt. i was told that i would need a 1/4" shorter belt. that was so tight i couldn't get it on. haven't had any probs with the stocker.
