the 65HD uses an overdriven gear set for the chain drive which turns out to be 2.93 FDR, the others have either the 3.05 or 3.29, on my 4t45 im going with 3.91 gears, im gonna like that, and the higher HP would be alot better behind som lower gears any day

Mine's pretty bad gearing.... 2.97 FDR lol. But the 65 HD has powerful motors behind them so you kind of want taller gearing.

BTW the older Monte's had the 4t60-e lol.

Man this topic really got sidetracked over a vacuum line... lol

What gearing does the 4t60 have? The 4t65's come in what? 3.69, 3.29, and 2.89. Or are you referring to each individual gear? not just the FDR.

well the 65HD actually has a worse gear ratio than the 4t65 or the 60 so they really arent that inferior

Everybody thinks that the imps and the 3400 montes got the 4t60, especially the 3800 guys. It's one of those things that makes them so superior.

00-05 Impalas have the 4t65e and e-HD in the L67 equipped models.

AFAIK the impala with the 3400 still had the 4t60 not the 65

Or, in skinrock's case, the 4t65.

I keep forgetting newer 4T60-E's are fully electronic. In that case just run a vac line to the FPR. A lot simpler and cleaner. Lucky you.

ur not gonna need a vacuum T off the intake to run to the trans unless u run the older 4t60 trans, but if it is a 99+ GA then u dont have to worry about that

Thanks for the help guys. I just paid for 3500 heads and lim. I decided it's a doable job, and I think I will really like the performance increase, especially since I'm officially doing the ZZP downpipe as well.

I would use the 3500 plenum too for the added power, but if you cant swap it on at this time due to getting it running and out the door, you can just use a stock 3400 plenum and then go back the next weekend and get the 3500 one working. The 3500 is too nice of a peice not to use.

The 3500 opening stock is 65-66mm.
The 3400 can be opened to 65mm but not much past that.

    Your alt will be fine.
