I will be going over everything and double checking but i doubt this stroker will be running this summer, it isn't on my priorities with my wife and i's first child on the way.....

You should be blue-printing the whole motor anyway. Look, you may have someone else machine it and even someone else assemble it, that's fine, not everyone has their own personal machine shop in their basement. But, always double check! Besides, if you going into "new" territory you NEED to know exactly whats going on in their. Just bolting a bunch of parts together could be very expensive setup for a bad day of crying over rods on the pavement.
Spend the few dollars for gauges, a book on blue-printing, and go over the whole thing.

I'd just give them all the info you can and have them just double check all the measurements. Plastigauge every bearing as well.

well, I appreciate the heads up. I would be pissed at an immediate engine failure. Since, I am not really well adversed on internals, what should I be looking for or tell my machine shop, because I know there is still some clearencing to do with the crank and block......

for many years, starting around 2002/2003.Originally posted by kwhauck View Postthat sucks to hear, is this recently? or for a long time, this crank was ordered around 2004/2005
They have turned out some good products but there has been a lot of people with problems. Several failed engine builds including one that was supposed to be a stroker.
this was a huge fail on JBP's part..
You all know[the guys who been around a while on the site] how it all started with me. I bought an 89 cavalier z24 for $800 and started a little project with my son to tinker with. We worked on it together, until on 3/29/04 he was killed in a car crash at the age of 22years old. His name to me...
the 3.7 stroker they built for him blew right away. I know of at least 1 other engine they built that failed right away too.

Jbody guys don't even shop there any more

i honestly couldn't tell you. I would assume they knew what they were doing when it was put together. It is a modified 3500 crank from jbody performance. I will let the machine shop do the fine details, since I honestly am a little scared to assemble the bottom end since I have a lot of money into my motor and don't want to mess anything up.....Originally posted by Joseph Upson View PostDo you know whether or not heavy metal will be needed to balance the assembly? The reluctor ring mounting circle has an assymetric area that would affect balance if removed such as in your case in addition to the parts changes.Last edited by kwhauck; 03-07-2010, 08:12 PM.

rods compariston, far left is stock 3400 rods, middle is narrowed Scat SBC rods, Right is Manley narrowed SBC rods..
Manley rods seem pretty light! off hand anybody know the big and little end weights of stock rods?

Piston/ Rod combo, pistons are custom JE pistons with a 3.635 bore
