I never said smokey wasn't a genius and didn't do great things for the automotive community. I'm just more of a fan on Doc.

Celebrating 50 years of the 1975 Hurst/Olds! Click Here For More Details Preserving the Interest of the Hurst/Olds Automobile The Hurst/Olds Club of America was formed September 4, 1983 by a group of 16 enthusiastic people dedicated to the pleasure and preservation of the Hurst/Olds automobile. An organizational meeting was held on that date in […]

"Yunick's innovations include variable ratio power steering, the extended tip spark plug, reverse flow cooling systems, a high efficiency vapor carburetor, a high-efficiency adiabatic engine, various engine testing devices, and a safety wall for racetracks, made of discarded tires."

    awesomeness X100.

i'm sure there is more missing from that list, but he was one hell of an engineer.

Too late, I already made them. Besides the output from the front manifold is only 1.75. I stepped up the pipe just for looks about 4" from the manifold. But your right.

Originally I was running the 1/4 in 15 flat with full exhaust. I dumped the exhaust and went with a 2.5" straight pipe that ran to the gas tank, about 4 foot long. I went faster 14.50's. I was trying to "tune" the pipe the old fashioned way. Spray a paint line down the side and cut where the paint stops burning off.
Funny thing is, the paint never burned.....ANYWHERE! and it was normal paint, not engine enamel. So I pulled it, the whole pipe. Damn if I didn't run 14.70's from then on out. But then I saw a post where someone stated about figuring your exhaust size...and a guy named smokey..... ya something. Anyway, I figured when I went with the larger intake and TB I would compensate for the open exhaust. Well thats my theory anyway. We'll see. I'm going to try for the track Tuesday. I want 13's before the end of the year. Oh, I'm also going to put some good gas in her. The varnish smelling 3 year old stuff is finally almost gone. yes, this is how tight I am, I have yet to put good gas in her!

my CAI sat in the cavity under the battery tray with a shield from the engine side. The air inlet to the cavity was the mouth of the front bumper.

I pulled out the filter last night, after a year of spotty driving it was still clean. No water marks, mud or bugs.

Loss of power would be 2.5" from each manifold.

Keep that 2" and you will be fine. Maybe even 2.25" would be ok, but 2.5" for the whole motor is best, and you have that on each bank..........

It's not the motor that did it but I did gut a bird on the grill of my beretta... face planted right on the Chevy emblem, and his stomach and intestine ended up in my safety latch depression on my header pannel... It was gross, but damn I got some good close up shots of it! LMAO...

SAI I love it! If I had a better way to run a CAI I would but I just don't know where to direct it, first things first, the battery has got to go soon...

The only route I can make is two 90* bends and at least one 45* bend, but that puts my filter only to the left front corner of the bumper, behind my washer tank, and open to air that goes through the radiator first... there isn't really a direct shot of air into that compartment, that's the big kicker about my setup.

    CAI's and WAI's are overrated..

    SAI's are where it's at: http://www.3500z.com/60degree/Intake%20Stuff/SAI.jpg

BTW, my CAI only had 1 bend in it and consistantly performed better than my WAI while sitting in the staging lanes and while moving.
