  • 2.8 w/ 3400 heads...

Will it work with a stock cam on premium? Or is the compression too high?

    say wuh
pretty sure the 3400 heads are same as 3100 heads
i have a 2.8 with 3100 heads and im not exactly sure how much compression it has, if anything your cr will be lower ?
    perfect for turbo hehehe

I didn't think you could use 3400 heads on a 2.8 block because the valves would hit the deck?

depends how much lift ya want.
you might have to get the pistons cut

2.8 and 3.1 have the same bore...

          Yes they will work.

If your 2.8 has the flat top pistons your SCR will be a little high, with premium fuel and a good tune you should be ok.

I must be thinking of the 3500 top end on anything other than a 3400 and 3500 block. See why I'm more of the DOHC guy? Less to remember And you guys think the DOHC is a complex beast of an engine

Will it work, yes, a 2.8/3.1 can take 3400 heads, they can't take 3500s because of bore width as was stated. As for compression, no one can say without knowing what 2.8 you have, if you have a RWD like mine, with flat top pistons it would be 12.89 which is pretty high, and you would need a large cam to run it on pump gas. If you have a gen 2 FWD, I don't offhand know what it would be, but just use the CR calculator on the site to find it. And the valves won't hit, a 3x00 engine the pistons actually pop out the block .020" if memory serves, and obviously they don't hit.

There were gen1 FWD 2.8's too. So if yours is iron head, it will be high compression. if it's aluminum head, it will be on the low side of compression.
