I couldn't find the exact info I was lookin for in other threads so hopefully you can help me here. I know it's possible to swap the 3.1 crank and connecting rods into the 2.8, but do I need to get new pistons as well or will the 2.8 pistons work. Money is a big issue and I'm hopin I can make this work, I'm just worried about clearance. All help is greatly appreciated.

you need the 3.1 pistons as well. the compression height changed with the stroke increase.
I have a set that i'll sell you for real cheap if you are in the states, they are FWD dished pistons though.. only good if you are using aluminum heads.

85 was the transition year, meaning some 85 blocks will still have the smaller journals, while some will have the larger journals. All EFI engines were large journal crankshafts with one piece rear seal. Not sure if an 85 Fiero is EFI or not.Originally posted by Fierobuffoon View Postyou cant swap the 3.1 crank into an 85 block, 86 up yes. 85 has differnt journal sizes= crappy
