  • Not your average Header thread... PICS.

yes, i built these from scratch. i had a local company Lazer cut the flanges for me, and i ordered the collectors/reducers from www.headersbyed.com
other than that, just a big box'o Jbends/Ubends and about 20 hours of my spare time to completely fabricate them from my imagination..

this is my first attempt at building headers..

its funny for the last 3 years ive been drawing and sketching out and making scale drawings of headers, measuring engine bay specs... even bought a set to modify last may (the S&S GA headers)
but when it came down to it to actually build these things, i just went from no drawings, just started looking at the engine, and cuting and tack welding pipes into place. there was no actual finished drawn or planned out exept what i had in my head,

ALL tubes are Equal lenth, the tube lenths are 36.5 inches long. and those are 1-5/8ths OD primary tubes.
the rear header is 1/8th within each lenth of each other, the front about 1/4inch within each other... so they are basically equal lenth.

here is a few pics for those too lazy to click the link.

ALL tubes are EQUAL LENTH!, 36.5 inch long primaries, 1-5/8ths OD tube diameter, and those are 2.5inch collectors. within 1/8th of an inch on the rear tubes, and 1/4inch within on the fronts... the front was heaps harder to make.

i have a set of 2.5 to 2inch reducers for the street hookups.
dual 2inch Y'ing into 2.5inch single. (yes all mandrel bends) this will be the 2nd mandrel bend exhaust system ive built from scratch for my sunbird in the last 3 years. LOL :P..

I just got them back from welding up Yesterday, i have to grind all the welds on the flanges and collectors, im not bothering with grinding all the seam welds, i think they look cool, add personality.
also have to still get them coated.

If this doesnt impress people... i dont know what will. labour of love... been a long time coming.
    :P

    Low 14's here i come!

and before im emailed to death.. I am not building these to sell. these are my headers.

VERY,VERY nice!! Congrats on all the work Colin. Next year I'll be working on the same thing, but mine will be done differently. Not that there's anything wrong with yours.

I don't suppose these will fit a 94 DOHC will they? (this may be one of those dumb questions)

Doesn't matter if he ain't gonna build them.

Hey very nice job. Yours collect into a 2"? Mine 2.25, and ours are very similiar, except mine are shorter. I spent 6 months drawing mine up on CAD, and designing them in my head. When it came to it, I did the same as you and disregarded all my designs.

Damn that sucks, I was hoping to shut a friend of mine up(3.1 3-speed) who holds you as his God. He won't shut up abotu how fast your car is. We need to get to a track at a meet to see who is faster. Maybe next summer, by then I'll have my ITBFI and my heads done
