    so your saying set it up to be a 2 stage setup, instead of infinitely variable? does anyone have detail pics of the phaser? maybe it's something that could be machined for better performance?

              anyone know on the exhaust ports?I'm prepping for the 3.5L now, and It'd be nice to know if I make headers that they won't be obsolete if I swap to an Lz9 later.

                The ports vary in shape some but the biggest obstacle is the bolt pattern. The LX9 bolt pattern is the same as earlier engines while the bolts are offset on the LZ engines. I do believe flanges could be made that would fit both bolt patterns as the last version of S&S headers had slotted holes. The final issue is the width of the LZ engines. The LZ engine is around 5/8" wider from exhaust port to exhaust port compared to previous engines. If you are using a crossover it would need to be modified when swapping to the LZ engine.

                    I have AutoCad files for the 3900 vvt, dod engine if you are interested.

                    I am finalizing the port spacing and should be sending them out for cutting soon. Incidentally I have enough extra material to make a spare set. They will be 3/16" thick stainless. Let me know if you are interested.

                      3/16 is mighty thin for header flanges, but either way, I don't have the capabilities to weld stainless.

                        Might be 5/16" I'll have to check when I get the material back from the cutting shop.

                        There's nothing special needed to weld stainless. You can weld stainless to steel too if you want. Generally you can use a 308 alloy for the weld. It works fine.
