On Saturday I put the lower and upper intake manifolds from a 2002 3400 on my sister's 1996 3100 Grand Prix. The car is running well and the engine is more responsive; however, the Service Engine Soon light comes on after a few miles with an insufficient EGR flow code. Any possible reasons for this? The emissions on the car must be done by the end of June so I have to have the light off within the next week.

I had a newer GP with a 3100 come to me a couple years ago with the same code. The carbon was packed solid between the EGR and the TB, so I made use of a lot of brake clean and a stiff piece of brazing rod (think a single strand of wire slightly thicker than a coat hanger) and bent it how I needed to as I worked my way to the TB busting up the carbon with the rod and brake cleaner. The light still has yet to come back on some time later.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

An empty catalytic converter will pop that code too. Hence why a "high-flow" converter is BS. You need 3-5 PSI of back pressure from the converter to get the EGR system to work properly. An empty converter will have little to no back pressure and thus "low flow".sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

Maybe I'm a little cranky, I just got up, not enough coffee yet, so please forgive me and take the grain of salt. But, I am constantly riding my mechanics on not being thorough enough. DON'T CUT CORNERS! It'll bite you! Just like this one did. When installing this intake and with us helping you look for a problem, it was ASSUMED, that the intake was cleaned before assembly. Usually, they get cleaned before assembly and all components that get mounted to it. Thankfully this was a minor issue but, you did waste a day or two chasing your tail for something that could have been avoided had you been thorough enough.Originally posted by oklahoma View PostOn Saturday I put the lower and upper intake manifolds from a 2002 3400 on my sister's 1996 3100 Grand Prix.
