Guess you ordered the pistons wrong? I would have figured you would have gone with a lighter rod with the goals you have. I went with a eagle featherweight H-beam at 560 grams before modifications

Sent from my iPhone using my iPhone at work cuz I have nothing to do

More goodies came today from USA.
    -Scat SBC connecting rods
-Diamond pistons with Total Seal rings
    -Comp Cams custom camshaft

I am pretty sure , I ordered 6 pistons, but they sent me 7.
But itīs OK, now I can build a V7 (joke).

There is a small issue with the connecting rods.
The small end of them are some 2 mm too wide.
Can not get them to the hole in piston.
But our local machine shop will fix it.

Wow that sure looks like an On/Off clutch. No springs to absorb any mistakes! Sweet

That is a 2 disc rally.
Alcon is a designer and manufacturer of specialist ultra-high quality, brake, clutch and other automotive components for OEM, motorsport, defence and specialist vehicles.

    It is made in England.
I have also Alcon brakes in my race car.
We consider Alcon the best. After that comes Tilton , Quartermaster .....

I could have bought a Quartermaster 7.25" clutch for something like 500 dollars.
But with Chevy or Ford clutch disc spline.
This Alcon was something like 1000 dollars with 2 Volvo spline discs.
This one can take 786 NM of torque.

The flywheel cost some 500 dollars.

If he is racing he most likely will have to prove it is an SFI or equivalent balancer. Nothing would be worse that a 5 pound iron ring splitting up at 8000RPM. Waste spark is great but COP is better. If you can make it work then why not. You should be able to use all the stock sensors.

The only thing I see as a problem is the external balance crank you got. Although it can be prepped to be internally balanced the internal balance cranks are better and have additional counterweights for less stress on the main bearings. Or better yet go for the forged 3500 crank and have your machinist mill it down to your spec. You will also have the advantage of a higher definition crank sensor to use with your coil on plug ignition.

excuse me for saying this, but isnt this all a bit much work for something that already is there, tunable? the stock coil pack for the 3100 is only 3 coils just like you mentioned. For some reason i dont see the balancer failing at 8000rpm if they hold together at 7000rpm. i'm sure if you got a big enough balancer you could fit the 24x relucter inside of it, maybe the one listed for v6 camaro will work for you. maybe...

I am going to use DIS (distributorless ignition system).
But not the one you have standard on this engines, that is 3 coils and 6 cylinders.
    That is called "wasted spark".
I am going to use what we call here "direct ignition", 6 coils and 6 cylinders.
    Or COP (coil on plug).

    So I need 2 information.
First to tell the ecu what is the engine rpm, that information comes from a hall sensor
reading the trigger wheel from crankshaft ( my ecu needs a 12 teeth trigger).
Second information is the camshaft position.
There is a sensor in stock engines reading the camshaft.
I am going to use that sensor.

I suppose there is no other problem using the stock RWD damper, other than
the engine speed. The stock damper is probably not designed to run such rpm.

The new 2.8 crankshaft is "externally balanced".
I will use a custom (light weight) flywheel. That is under construction all the time.
I bought a new FWD V6 flywheel from http://bmcautos.com/ , we take the starter ring out of it,
make a custom flywheel and fit the ring to the new flywheel.

All the things will be send to the machine shop, where all will be balanced.
I allready spoked with this man in the shop.
He said , we will get it balanced all right, but he recommended me to buy a full race damper,
    such as http://www.atiracing.com/products/dampers/index.htm

well with all the mist matched parts, you would think he would send it all to get balanced.... so any balancer that fits will work.

I was looking at doing the same thing to the oil pan on my 3900. How was your luck welding the bottom of it?

Also I noticed the 2.8 Crank you used is an externally balanced crank (I think). Do you have a 2.8L externally balanced flywheel and harmonic damper to go with it?

    don't forget balancers are tuned.

the only thing that scares me about stock balancers is the RPM, 8000 RPM's is fast, real fast.

you'll need a 2 wire crank sensor instead of the 3 wire unit you have, what are you doing for you ignition? DIS? what about fuel? EFI or Carb? if you're not running DIS and you're going to run a distributor, you don't need that sensor at all. on the balancer, I'm not aware of an aftermarket balancer for the 2.8, a stock RWD balancer would work fine, but it won't be as compatible with the 7x wheel. or you could run a FWD timing cover, and then you could run any almost any 3x00 balancer, as long as it has provisions for the sensors you pland to use, IE, the balancer in your hand has a 24x wheel inside, the 3500 balancer does not.
