I'm building a T bucket/modified/track-roadster around an 89' Camaro 2.8 60V6. The plan is for the upper manifold & throttle body to be exposed, as opposed to being under a hood. My engine came with nothing beyond the throttle body. I know there is supposed to be MAF tube/sensor "out there", and from the pics I've seen it's ugly, and mounts on the end of a rather ugly flex tube. Ideally I'd like to just mount a K&N style filter right on the front of the throttle body. I've seen pics of cold air kits for Fiero 2.8s that appear to have no provision for a MAF. How necessary is the MAF sensor? A search brought up a post on a Camaro forum about swapping a working MAF tube with a gutted one...but gave no reason or results. Is possible to relocate it, and some how trick the ECM to thinking it is where it would normally be? Could it be mounted directly to the mouth of the throttle body, with a filter attached directly to it? Does anyone have the dimensions of the MAF tube?

Some F body ECMs use a MAF, some don't, you could use a '7730 ECM, and the would only require a MAP sensor."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. Yea, I know there are carb options, but I'd hoped to stick to the MPFI set up I have. I'm on a seriously tight budget (retired on disability), and as long as keeping the MPFI is financially feasible, that's what I'll do. If I do end up going the carb route I'd probably go with a Weber progressive 2bbl set up...a 4bbl seems to me to be overkill on an other wise near stock 2.8. The only mods I'm anticipating until I know how this thing runs as-is, are a set of lake style headers, a bit hotter coil with good plugs and wires, and what ever I figure out for the air intake. The ones pictured have modern Ford 2.3 SOHC 4s...and are 1920s bodies...1926/27 Model T to be specific. The same that I'm hoping to use with mine.

Not at this point. Right now i'm in the planning and acquisition phase. I want to get the major components on hand before I start frame construction. Right now it's all in my head, and a CAD file...both change several times a day...LOL.
