Use the 272 cam with 3100 1.6 rockers, iron head pistons, and LS6 springs. That and a bigger exhaust system head pipe back you'll do good. You'll also have plenty of bottom end I gurentee it. And a big TB if you can get one will help. All this GEN2.

I did a set of heads for slowbird he has a 91 auto 3.1 sunbird it ran 15.36@88mph with the heads I ported and polished for him, a 62mm TB and a cold air intake. stock exaust too! usally the 3.1 auto J's run 16.5-8's stock. so 3100 topend, 260 cam, larger TB and maybe exaust work should get you well in to the 15's!1999 Olds Alero 2.4 to 3500 swap (running). totaled by a honda
1992 lumina 4 door 3500 3spd auto 15.020 @93.5 mph
1984 Cavalier type 10 hatch 3100 5spd!!!
14.96@91.47 in the 1/4
9.63@74.36 in the 1/8th
14.30 on slicks! scrapped due to rust!

i think cranes springs for these motors are stock replacement sbc valve springs, thats what i using. the summit guy paired them up with my h260 cam, i dunno if they are that much stiffer, in trying for maximum power, stiffer is bad unless you want higher rpms. which in the case of a fast lumina, might be an option worth looking into, supposing the tranny feels like an extra 500-1000 rpm. i still think he shouldn't sacrifice any low end torque with a to agressive cam, 4spds are kind of wide geared arent they? dont the 3100's have 9.6:cr? if he can find those pistons/rods on ebay cheap enough he can up the cr cheaply, just drop them in, no pressing pins.If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

bah! 1QUICKHATCH beat me too it.
Yea...heads, 62mm TB, and a CAI got me a 15.3! Surprised the sh**t outta everyone...especially since it's a 3-speed auto.
It can be done...easier then you think. If I can do my time with the few mods I have and my wonky suspension, and stock exhaust...you can get into the high 15's with some work of your own.
