  • 3100 to 3400 + turbo swap questions

    so i got a 95 grandam with a dead 3100 in it.

the plans for now are to swap a 3400 into it, with a custom turbo setup, using a t3/t4 hybrid. was thinkin of usin a 14b out of a 1gDSM but i figure'd it'd be to small.

can i do 7psi Intercooled on stock injectors? how about 9 psi on stock internals? anyplace i can buy 'turbo' exhaust manifolds?

i plan on ordering the 3400, getting DonkeyPunch Heads and Manifolds and Throttle Body. Figure if i have to swap anything out like pistons and rods i might as well do it while i have it apart.

    thanks in advance

not sure on the transmission. read thruogh the donkey punch forum and etc etc.

found out with 42.5lb/hr injectors i can push up to 15psi or more on stock internals and they didnt have problems.

    they had a 4t60 transmission...im sure i got a 4t40/45 i guess.

what all are my choices now transmission wise? does the 4t60 swap onto the 3400? or would it be better to bulletproof the 4t4x?

The only issue with going to bigger injectors is tuning. The ECU in several 95 GM cars were untunable. A few options are to upgrade to OBDII or a true OBDI, standalone engine management with standalone transmission management, or use piggyback systems. Grand Ams from 94-98 had the 4T60-E. The 4T40 and 45-E transmission wasn't used in a grand am until 99.

or if you go obd1 or stand alone, swap in a 5 speed.

and yea, you have a 4t60e.

would the apexi s-afc be able to handle the air/fuel or would that not allow enough tuning?

didnt even really think about this part lol. figured DHP might of been able to tune it for me.

which cars should i look for 5 spds in? or where could i purchase one? i prefer a 5/6spd over an auto anyday.

you could do an OBDII conversion and use DHP.

With this car, that would be my approach. Given you have a 60e, can you not swap in a 65e since you have all the room you need, as well as the mounts for the tranny ready to go (anyone correct me if I am wrong). You could use a PCM from a montana given it has a 3400 and 65e, but you would need to deal with the passlock/bcm issues. I can't understand why the pre-99 3x00 guys are not in the 12's yet...

well once i get it all in...i hope i hit 12's on DR's...and still be daily driveable.

any place on info for an obdII swap?

                  u think a 3400 in a 95 grandam 2dr with a t3/t4 pushing 9psi would break 12's?

No, probably only 13's. I would shoot for 12PSI.

well on DPP in the forums the stock internal 3400 and stock 60e was able tohold 15psi...so i think i could do 12psi when i needed to and 9psi daily...if it becomes my daily...might be alittle more fun than my silverado after this is all done lol.

anyone tryed using the apexi s-afc? i know with the PCM on a 02-03 Lancer u could only subtract fuel...so what ppl did was install bigger injectors that flow much more than stock and they would subtract the fuel to make it work right. any problems using the s-afc? or would AEM EMS work?

Besides the blinking light factor, you dont need an apexi s-afc...

might go with some of there stuff for tuning purposes. looks promising

*puke* I would stay away from a piggyback, but hey, that is just me...

igve helped build up an ecotec turbo motor. we used an safc, i didnt realy like it. its a band aid for real tuning. if you are serious about making this thing fast, and you dont have emmissions testing in your area, deffinitly go stand alone.
