  • Stock GM Roller Rockers?

Will a set of '96+ 3100/3400 Gen III Roller Rockers fit a set of '91 3.1 iron heads?

If not, what needs to be done, to let them work? (aka - will I need a set of 3100/3400 rocker studs?)

    nope.

the rocker arms are a pedestal mount, the stud is part of the rocker as is the special pedstal that aligns the rockers via a locating notch in the head and a locating tab on the rocker.

unless extensive machining is done to the iron heads, which it would be more cost effective to use a set of crane roller rockers that are made for the iron heads.

What do you want pics of? The notches in the heads? I can probably find pics of that...

91 with Iron heads hey? So must be an S-10 or Camaro

Well here is the low down. What crane sells for the 60* V6 are simply Small Block Chevy Rockers. However in the kit they include studs that convert the 10MM threads in the head to a 3/8" thread in the rocker. So really all you have to do is but any Small Block Chevy roller rocker with 3/8" mounting holes and buy conversion studs.

OR if you buy a stamped roller tip rocker for a SBC then you can use your original pivot balls

Or Comp sells a set that is made for 10 MM studs which you already have.

Cranes Gold Race roller rockers are the best (I have them and so does a friend of mine) but they are the most expensive.

if you use SBC rockers on a 60* V6 they have to be narrow bodied , not the wide body rockers

yeah, pics of the notches... my next 3.1 build is going to have Al heads... will the 3100/3400 Gen III heads bolt to the RWD 60 degree block?

I can do a lot of machining, and fabrication... if I had a pic of the heads with no rockers, and a pic of the rockers, I might could do something about that...

yes the Gen3 heads will work on a RWD block. chris has done it to his 85 Jimmy, and added a turbo as well:

But the problem is that if you design the notches into Iron heads there is no way in telling if they will sit at the right height with the right geometry and preload. Costom pushrods would take care of preload but what about the valve stem side? this must also be at the right spot in toder to press down at the right angle.
