  • Another L-body with a 3400

I swapped (with the help of Erich Dethloff, Steph Martin, Kurt Workman, and Dustin Bainbridge) in a 3400 last weekend. The motor is from a 2,000 mile 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette.

Its been a bit slippery out to get the full effect but there is a HUGE swell of torque at 4k.

We didn't have much time, materials, or equipment...so we had to settle for a few things...

-Reused 3100 injectors, I got new o-rings, but had to use the 110k miles ones doe simplicity. Is there a difference in the size of these?

-Reused 3100 rear exhaust manifold. We where not able to fabricate a new downpipe....so we had to reuse the dinky thing. BTW, 3400 minivan manifolds are the same as the 3400 car manfiolds.

Had to put on new control arms....$320....the old bushings where DONE. Check yours. I'll bet they are too.

In a word, soild. These roads need to improve and I need new tires.

I am hoping for a 15.5@89 and around 148 whp as the car sits right now....I can't wait till I can hit the track and make a few dyno pulls.

How many miles does it take to break a motor in?
