Yes, the '02 engine definitely has the larger valve guides. It started in late '00.

He may actually be getting some valve float too. Most grand ams I've seen dyno'd power falls off 400-500rpm before the stock redline, and since he has a DHP pcm his redline is higher than stock. I got it on good confidence from a certain GM engineer we talked to at one of the grand am picnics in lansing that the stock LA1 valve springs were known to start having valve float issues before the stock redline after they get some miles on them. Probably why they upped the spring rate on the 3500, and the reason many of us started swapping in LS1 springs for stock cammed cars to begin with.

Go to an autoparts store for the seals, Fel-Pro should have a set for that.

I got my seats from a Toyota dealer, so yeah you were right on that. He said I ordered the last 13 in the US... hehe
Thanks for the info. I'll have to do that this weekend. Here's hoping.

well i have a dhp 1.0 pcm and it likes to pull in the upper rpms til it shifts from 1-2 6300 2-3 6k and i am getting alot of revs and no power. im actually losing foreward momentum. so i know its not getting enough air for that demand, but ill fix that soon also. just want to know if i go with this upgrade then i wont have to worry so much about losing the power on the upper end. when i get the dhp programmer ill take the WOT shifts down some on the rpms, but i wanna keep it about 5900 or so, so i wanna make sure my engine will breathe...N/A

comp cams has seats where you don't have to grind them to fit over the guides. i had to grind my ls1 shims

ok so if i were doing this replacement for my 02gagt 3400 i would use the 2.2l seals, the ls1 shims, and ls6 springs? should i notice less vavle float at higher rpm with this upgrade?
