    Timing gears question.

    '91 3.4L.
The intermediate shaft and 'cam' gear have a keyway. I didn't see a key fall anywhere when I removed them. Is there a key?

That's just GM trying to trick you. I looked all over my floor for the key the first time as well. There isn't one, but you can find a key at the hardware store that fits if you want to use one. The bolt is supposed to hold the gears together and to the shaft.

      This motor remains a mystery.

      Thank you for responding.
