    a high idle

    any reason why when i start my car in the morning it idles at 3000 rpm? it is a 1991 cutlass supreme with the 3.4 liter v6

    How cold was it? How long did it idle high, or did it stay doing it?

      As Tom asked, how long did it last? Could be a bad vacuum leak most likely caused by the Lower intake gaskets being bad.

        ya i 100% garuntee that it is your lower intake manifold gasket. where the manifold meets the heads. my car was doing the same thing when i got it and it's because the silicone in the gaskets gets old and cracks and when it does that it causes a vacume leak and causes the car to idle at 3000 rpm. when it warms up it will go away so long as you dont drive it till the idle goes down. if you drive it before that it will keep idleing like that and wont go away. so get them changed a.s.a.p. or it will just get to the point that it will idle at 3000rpm whether or not it is warm.

          Yeah, it only takes about 2 hours to change them if you've never done it before.

            yeah, its been like below 30 for the past week or 2 here, and it lasts until i push the gas a little bit, and ty all for your help, il get the gasket replaced soon

              it sounds like its just getting warmed up. have you actualy let it run to operating tempiture? if so did it stop when it retched operating tempiture? if so then thats normal
