No AIR pump on 96....What Happens?

Yeah, I'm just full of questions today I am thinking about ditching the AIR lines on the new motor I am putting in the car, as they just muck up the engine compartment. What is the downside if I cap off the lines? Will I get a MIL light? The relay is still in place, and as far as I can see....that's the only place there is feedback to the PCM....

    Thanks!

Very new cars will monitor O2 levels after turning the AIR pump on to see if its making a difference. I don't think the 96 DOHC does this since I think it only runs the pump on startup. You should be able to just remove the whole setup and block off the holes in the manifold.

it will set a code if you block it off. it did on mine atleast....

there was a pair of codes i had to disable with my tuner for me to remove the AIR system.

I guess they added some stuff in 96 for OBD II.

OBD2 essentially knows everything..... And it is lightining quick to toss a code.

In 97 they took the air pump out. If you take it out of the 96 it will just set a code off but if you have a dhp tunner you can tell it not tocheck the codes for it.

Cool! And where do I find a DHP tuner? I sent an email a week or so ago to their website..and nada. No response. If anyone has one they want to sell, or wants to lend me....I would be most appreciative. I need to turn off the AIR checks and possibly the rear O2 if possible..... Nothing else I really need to do to mod the thing.....yet
