    HELP!!!! BASIC MAINTENANCE GONE WRONG

    I've got a 1991 Grand Prix GTP 5Speed, I was doing a little basic maintenance for the time being, until started to lose it. I was replacing the plugs and wires(stock for now) did every thing by the book, dis-connected the battery,etc. Stupid on my part, I pulled out all the wires, instead of going one by one. When I had to reinstall them I took out my Grand Prix service manual. I went by the diagram for the coil, now my car won't start. I've tried seven combinations on the coils, but it still doesn't start. Any suggestions? The car ran perfect before I did it, with a little miss.

              Well... were in the DOHC section, and he said 91 GP GTP... that leaves us with the 3.4DOHC. Regarless, all 60* are the same # and coil (at least the DIS 60s, and I don't know about the latest 04/05 generation of engines).

              Anyways, to answer the question at hand:

              A diagram of the cylinder #s:

              Firewall Side
              __________

              1 3 5

              2 4 6
              __________
              Front of car


              From left to right the coil packs go:
              1/4 6/3 2/5

              Just connect the wires according to that diagram hopefully it'll start right up. Be sure you didn't accidentally remove any of the harness connections on the Ignition Control Module. It'd be pretty hard to do that by accident though.

                      Did you get that info from Haynes or Chiltons? They have been known to be wrong.

                      Straight fron the GM manual the firing order for ---

                      3.4l is: 1,4,3,6,2,5 on the coil

                      3.1l is: 1,4,6,3,2,5 on the coil

                      3800 is: 1,4,5,2,3,6 on the coil

                      Dont get them confused.

                      I'm not making this up. its from the GM book!!! FACT.

                              This difference would not matter. They just reveresed the #s of the 3/6 coil to 6/3. As long as cylinders 6 and 3 are on the same coil (the one in the middle) it doesn't matter which terminal they are hooked up to since they both always park at the same time.
