Alt Vent?

Ok... I was tearing my engine down in my 95 Monte and when I pulled the rear cyl. head I found this piece of ducting. It connects to my alt but it just goes down behind the block I think. Does this vent go anywhere or does it end right there. I cant find it in my Chiltons manual so I'm not sure if any is missing. I thought only earlier model Luminas had the cooling vent.... Hmmm

The vet goes from the alternator and opensup down to the ground. This is to pull cool air to the alternator.
