    Starters V8/V6

I seem to remember someone once telling me that a V8 5.7L Starter will fit a 60DEG-V6 3.4DOHC.

Can anyone confirm or deny this statement?

yeah the 3100 or even a 3800(longer i think) will fit. An LT1 starter is standard measure so i wouldn't try.....

my starter on my Z34 is off a 02 grand am GT with the 3400. It bolted right on with no problem, actually since its the "mini" starter it went on much easier than the stock behemoth came off

my car does have the water to oil cooler, I had to take off just the oil filter not the whole cooler assm. to remove the stock starter with a few choice words but I could have installed the mini starter with the oil filter still on. I think i took a pic of the 2 starters side by side but i can't find it, the size difference is amazing

So the starter on a 3400 is smaller with higher output? Any pics would be great.

Its a gear reduction starter, it has a set of planetary gears in it. It works great my car starts faster, it sounds better when cranking, not too much of an issue with these cars but heat soak doesn't effect it.

Autozone charges $134.99 plus a $32 core but you can find one at junkyard for much less. I paid $17 at pick in pull, I'll pulled out of a wrecked grand am but apparently the wreck was bad enough to to screw up the starter but I used it as a core for a new one.
I still haven't learned how post pics. but the autozone website shows the correct starter just use a 2002 grand am with 3400

i have an AC Delco reman from an "01 Impala 3400". Paid 115 for it. I ordered that and one for a 96 3.4. They were both gear reduction, but the 3400 one was slightly smaller (lighter). The 3.4 one had a different number of teeth than the one i took off, so that was another reason i used the 3400 one.

they sound like a quiet old mopar v8 starter. a little gear noise is good but the mopar one are excessive.

Well I also still like the classic GM sound but the starters are so much bigger and there is only so much room down there....
