    Battery Relocation

    I was wondering if anyone could help me out............again.

    I know OldSkoolGP might be able to enlighten me.

    I ordered a battery relocation kit today and my current battery has 625 CCA. I was just wondering if this would be enough to start the car considering the cable length will be more than doubled.

    Need to get the battery in the trunk so I can run the cold air.

    Help is always greatly appreciated.
    The only thing better than GM is a GM with a 60V6 under the hood.

    It will start the car fine, as long as you are using a heavy enough cable. Actually using a larger battery won't help unless you have a large enough cable to transfer the current. What guage cable are you using? For that run I wouldn't use anything less than 1/0 guage. If the kit doesn't come with anything that big. Welding cable would be by far the cheapest way to go.

    Oh, the other thing. I just bought a kit from "D.O.H.C." that works with out moving the battery. But you will have to find a new home for your washer fluid tank.

      Double length double the gauge. Every 3 is double the cross sectional area there fore over doubling the amperage capacity. If stock uses 8 than roughly 4 would more than double amperage and over half the resistance. Most starter will only draw at most 125-150 amps to start a very cold engine.

      Since 5 gauge is uncommon 4 ga is an example. Since the supply is very close to the starter medium gauge wire is typically used.

      3 or 2 gauge wire is is good enough.

        Running 2 guage. And I was wrong the battery is only 490 cca.
        Reason I ask is because people have told me that they had problems.
        The only thing better than GM is a GM with a 60V6 under the hood.

          Well, theoreticaly you shouldn't have any problems. Did they run 2-guage? Just make sure all of your connections are really good. Makes sure all of the crimps are solid and you connections are tight. Also make sure you have a good ground. make sure it is a solid part of the frame and clean off ALL the paint at the connection.

            Best idea yet that I've heard. Keep the junk outa the trunk. Weight on the wheels. You got a link to D.O.H.C.?

                I have my battery in my trunk!!!

                I put my battery in my trunk and its been two years since. If you have any questions or help even to as to how I ran the cables just ask. Auto Electric is one of our specialties.
                I used fine 2ga. cable and it works great.

                  Thanks I think I need a new battery anyway. The battery I have does not appear to be able to fit the box I have.

                      Cheap 50 dollar summit box. The box is clearly setup for a top post battery and of course we have side post batteries.
                      The only thing better than GM is a GM with a 60V6 under the hood.

                        If you plan to buy a new battery get an Interstate Battery($90 plus). Expensive but good quality. Now if you want to spend about $40+ on top of that battery and get something really good, get an optima.

                          Ok I didn't have much money so I just got a wal-mart battery for 40 bucks 720 ca. It fits good I just need to run my wires and remove the old battery.

                            I need help real bad. I have a 94 z and I just installed my cai for the dirst time. Yes I know I make them and did not even have one. Anyways I ran 4 ga to the old post that attached to the battery terminal and 4 ga to the shock tower in the back. Now I start the car and in the morning it will start but in the afternoon forget it. It will barly crank. So I replaced the starter solinoid. I am getting 12.0 v at the starter with the car off. any ideas.

                              I run 0 gauge to the post from the positive terminal in the trunk, no problems.
                              I have a good ground from the neg post to the frame....
