    Dash issues

    What do you do with your curled up dashes?
    it appears the glue used over the years just deteriorates and the dash skin just uncurls.

    any remedies besides buying another dash?

        instead of getting a cover i decided to glue and rivet the OEM dash cover.
        although it will never win any car shows it seems to be acceptable to me. lol!!!

          Sometimes they get brittle and shrink and that's why it pulls away.

              I've seen some like a corsica dash, and it's shrank and if you press on it your finger goes through. It's like it hardened up and shrank and became brittle. Probably a combination of both. Seen it on newer mercurys and fords too where it's REALLY bad around the gauge bezel and windshield. No glue could hold that down on those, I could barely press them into shape....

                the dash cover is really bad and the defroster function does not work properly plus obstructing the view too.

                So I removed the dash to perform the repair now.

                  hmm. Riveting actually doesn't sound like a bad idea, to keep the edges down. just put them down inside the vent areas where they cant be seen.

                  i wonder what glue would be best.... everyone says gorilla glue but i wouldn't use it on a dash, it's doesn't stick that great to smooth surfaces, and it actually expands when it drys.... liquid nails maybe? Or there has to be some kind of industiral glue that's not crazy exspensive....

                    Hmm cool. Now would be a good time to replace those old worn looking front speakers with something nice.

                    Good luck! It actually looks kind of cool with the top off... Maybe just paint that black? LOL.
                    My dash doesn't separate like that. It's all one big unit.

                      yeah, same story here. to remove my dash, you remove it all. the pad is part of the dash structure itself

                      looked on mcmaster-carr, found this stuff that actually softens and bonds materials together, instead of just sticking. take a look at some of it. search the number 7352A11

                            Any Cutlass Supreme owner has been thru this. I actually used black drywall screws around the inner lip of the defroster vent. I screwed them down just enough that it holds the pad down without "compressing" it and making the surface all wavy. It fixed the dash problem permanently.

                              I should have used longer rivets so it would not wave as much.
                              They drywall screws is a good idea too.
                              Gluing the dash together was just a no no
