It has the new style, installed by the PO. The problem is one of the two bolts is largely inaccessible due to the subframe being in the way. I've done the job in the past, and it sucked majorly, but I really don't feel like it this time.

It's been a long time, but doesn't the newer style starter use a shorter bolt too? I've swapped many a-body starters over the years and agree that it's no fun. But the last one (over 10 years ago) I did, I swapped in a newer starter and the install was a breeze. I'll never install the older style starter again.

Yeah, one long, one short, and the long one is on the rear. Which is why it's so difficult, and I'm willing to pay someone else to do it.
Speaking of, the mechanic came and did the starter this morning, and good thing he did. The yellow sedan suddenly sprung a coolant leak on my way home from work today. So I'm back in black. I will investigate the leak this weekend, though I don't know if y'all want me to post about it here since it's Buick V6 powered.Kaiser George IX: 1996 Buick Century Special wagon. 213-SFI. 250k miles. So.
It has been a few months since I posted in here. Life, uh, finds a way. Not much has happened in the interim, and at the same time a whole lot. I got the yellow sedan back on the road. Last summer the crank position sensor died, which is the sole component in the ignition system, aside from the ICM, on this car that controls spark. After the starter seized in the black wagon, I swapped that, then it left me stranded a couple times with a no crank. So back in Goldilocks we go.
After investigation, it looks like the ignition switch is the culprit. I may change that out at some point, but summer has arrived yet again in Sin City, and sitting inside a fish bowl fucking with wiring under the dash does not sound very appealing. The yellow car worked quite well after the crank sensor replacement. Well enough that I got a crazy, CRAZY idea that would end up biting my entire ass off.

I made the second and probably final road trip in the yellow sedan. I drove for four days to and from Nowhere, Kansas, on personal business, which went well... up until it didn't. The transmission started slipping badly. It's roasted and needs rebuilt. I only took a week off of work and still had to get back in on Monday. So I did what any reasonable person would.

Bought an Altima off Marketplace. It's only the second red car I've ever owned and the first Coupay.
Immediately got a flat. The donut was brand new!

Then immediately needed to replace a hub.

It was seized to the knuckle and had to be persuaded out.

It's a 2011 with a QR25 and 168k miles, which is fine for its age. It also needs a MAF and an oxygen sensor to pass emissions. My brother loaned me the money, and I will be working it off with him by prepping his Camaro for an engine swap (LS1 ate a bearing after a 150 mph blast) and completing the swap once he gets an engine. He plans to go pretty big with a built 5.3, 4L65*, 9 inch, and a centrifugal supercharger. In the mean time, he wanted something rear wheel drive with a manual transmission to do burnouts and donuts in, so he picked up a Z.

The seller also threw in a set of NISMO wheels, so once he gets tires on those he's gonna give me the stock wheels to put on my Coupay. We are starting to turn into a Nissan family apparently (me, him, our mother, our uncle all have Altimas, another uncle has a Titan).
As such, I'm probably not going to be posting much in this thread, if ever again.I'll probably document the Camaro swap, though I have no idea how long it will take, and it's outside the scope of this forum anyway.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I haven't owned a 60V6 in almost a decade I think. And we are basically a Toyota/Lexus family, although I still have an Avalanche as well as a F250. Granted, I haven't been on here in quite awhile until the recent software update. Sorry to hear about the issues, but it was always good to read about everything you were doing!
I would say go ahead and document the Camaro swap in the off topic section. I would love to hear how it goes!-Brad-
