if only i liked DOHC....
i might change my mind after actually experiencing one.... a 300/300 camaro with 6 speed manual is tempting...... if only for a test drive

say what you will about that motor, but it looks like a bucket of ass to me with that stupid ass plastic cover on it. but atleast this one a guy could change the belt by himself.
i bet if you look into this one its based off of a toyota block too. VVT-i is a toyota thing... well maybe this one just lacks the intelligence.
but i guess it could be a good motor, whos to say in 10 years, eh?

ya know, the DOHC has a better belt system, the OHV looks kinda complicated, but i really like that intake on it. thats bad ass! like two turbo logos or something, that with twin turbos would kick ass.

maybe, who knows? the engineers at GM? thay managed to make OHV motors VVT, i imagine its at least as easy on a OHC motor since a lot of companies have been doing it for 10-15 years minimum....
VTEC anyone?
EDIT: my concern on the OHC: see the power steering pump?

maybe... lol it looks kinda burried in there... but it cant be worse than the alternator in my car...

right, its probably about the same. but how about checking the fluid in it? there better be a long damn dipstick/tube to check it...
i'm VERY anal about checking fluids(i know there is a joke coming for that statement, don't leave us in suspense, i need a good laugh). not being able to check it would make me go nuts....

My guess is that it would have a remote mounted reservoir. Also with out the reservoir that should make it smaller, and easier to replace then I alternator. Plus I have changed far more alternators then I have power steering pumps, there is no electrical to go wrong.sigpic

lol is your lumina auto or standard? i hear i have to drop the back half of the subframe to get the alternator out of the engine.

It's a auto, but I have yet to change the alternator on this beast yet. I too have heard that the frame needs to drop a couple of inches to get the bad boy out.sigpic

If you drop the frame, you're doing way too much work.
I spent 10 minutes looking at stuff before I started tearing into it and came up with this a long time ago:

So far it has worked just fine for me, and yes, that was my 91 and it was done before I made the car a 5 speed.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

looks like the easier way to me, but its tough to tell without doing it both ways, to lower the subframe its only loosening 4 bolts. now if a guy has access to a hoist. this shouldnt be too hard, right? sounds a whole lot easier to me than pulling the axle. but like i said i think i would want to try it both ways before i decide.Originally posted by pocket-rocket View PostIf you drop the frame, you're doing way too much work.

Loosening the frame bolts can also throw your front alignment off. Removing the axle doesn't since the knuckle and everything steering related never is loosened/removed from the car, hence why I came up with my method.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

this is one of the ways my mechanic suggested, did he also steal YOUR idea? lol jkOriginally posted by pocket-rocket View PostLoosening the frame bolts can also throw your front alignment off. here's another, but it fucking ginormous (2177 X 959), so i'm not going to IMG it... instead i'll just post link.

the URL kind of gives it away... i was thinking of putting Satan on the other side, but can't find a good epic pic that goes well with the scene....
EDIT: i guess photobucket shrank it... now its 1024 X 451... so i guess i will IMG it...Last edited by robertisaar; 09-06-2009, 11:16 AM.
