Well I just got word the guy that does my coatings is down in his back and no clue when he will be able to work again if ever. So I guess a few more coats of grill paint and I'm calling it good. This is the last v6 this truck will ever see anyways and these headers wont work on my lowered s10.

I made the comment to Ben today while I was down there about suggesting the use of pipe insulation on headers to keep them protected during install. I've never installed a set so I don't know how well that would work. Thoughts?

Then its bigger and it wont fit... LOL

I think if I install them before all the parts that get in the way are in place then I'll probably get them in without damage so there will be no chips before curing.


Forced is the stuff you use a HVLP spray on stuff and is it readily available to the public? I wouldn't mind giving that a try since the Techline I do have is quite old so I would have to buy more to do the rear and re-do the front.

I have taped paper towels to headers to keep them from getting scratched during install before.

Paper towel tubes would work too, since I didn't realize exactly how tight they were. If they are tight enough that another 1/2-3/4" won't allow them to fit, I would be looking at everything around them for an interference fit and melting.

I would suggest you assemble the entire harness, subframe, headers etc and dropping the car on a assembly if you can, that would nix any issues of marking finished surfaces.

I use a small HVLP gun and oven.

eh, not quite possible...

I'll just be installing the headers before I install the coolant rails, and all that fun stuff, thats what gets in the way.

Scratch the paint idea again, was told about another guy thats 1 hour away and he'll do both headers for $150 so they are indeed getting coated.
