Window Motor?

Well my driver's side window hasn't worked for a month now, and my parents got me a new motor for HS graduation. (I graduated #16 of 342, with a GPA of 4.13, act of 31, and I forgot my SAT)

Anyways, as you all call bullshit

I took my door all apart, only to find out that the fucker is riveted in there. wtf??? So I had to take it some place and they did it for like 60 bucks. So to anyone who plans on doing it yourself, have fun....

Ive done it. Drill out the rivets, it took 5 minutes, then reinstall with small nuts and bolts. Like what you'd do with a replacement balljoint.

took me 20 minutes per front door. i cut the rivets with the air cutoff wheel because i couldnt get the drill to stay centered on the pin in the middle of the rivet.

At's the correct procedure! No drill? A nice sharp chisel will pop the heads off those critters like a chicken! Must have done 50 or so in the same fashion. Book time is 45 mins. 60 bucks sounds a little high. Shoulda been 35 tops. And the motors have always been riveted in.

I have to add why the rivets are there! Aluminum rivets won't wallow out the thin sheet metal if they do get loose. (never seen it) Your window motor torques back and forth. Ever feel your door panel move when your window bottoms out? If a bolt comes loose, and wallows out the holes....Guess what? No window action! And VERY hard to fix! I always replace with aluminum rivets, cheap kit from any Lowes or Home Depot. Easier and faster than bolts too.

There's always those nylon-lock nuts that won't come loose. On the job I did I used lock washers and red loctite. No worries.

i always cut them off with my die grinder...

I use a Chicago Pneumatic Air POP rivet gun. I like that....POP! Quoting AC|DC..."Pull the trigger!" But seriously, if you ever do have a bolt work loose, you are in one hell of a mess. I learned that lesson a long time ago on a 71 Monte. I didn't know how to weld then and it cost about 75 bucks to fix it. Would be more like 150 now.
