Sooty/black plugs are a sign of running to rich. Lot of things can cause that, as I'm sure you know, even a plugged up air filter. Most likely an injector problem though.
Reading plugs;
Black sooty residue = rich condition.
White = to lean.
Greenish tint = you need a cooler range plug.
Slight redish discolorization = residue from octane boost or other additive.
Wet black oily residue = oil fouling from oil leak.
Light brownish color = perfect.
