That is actually worse, breaking in a sub at low levels makes it acustom lower level threshholds. The sub should have be broken in at 1/2 to a 2/3 volume with normalized bass at +0dBm, and 50% amp gain to keep the signal to noise ratio high in other words low distortion.

You need to heat the coil to burn-in or fully cure so to speak, low levels don't do the job.

the amp is a memphis pr200. It is rated at 50x2 at 4ohm,75x2 at 2ohm,and 200x1 bridged. It is fan cooled. Actually the stereo shop where I purchased the sub told me to break it in under low volume. Also there was a sheet that came with the sub saying to break it in under low volume.

Well I guess every sub different, but even printed words won't make me break them in any different. I have built aftermarket subs up from the coils and know for a fact the materials I use need operation heat to seat and cure the coils, however it also depends on what is perceived as low volume, and most subs are burned-in at the factory. With the deck at 2/3rds volume with no bass this includes Loud and the amp at 50%, that it my perceived low volume and been doing it that way for a long time.

Strange to me the only thing that can really fail the way I do it is the coil tinsels.

Visit here it where I started I will leave the rest to you:
