    3.4/3400 F-Body Hybrid Build

Parts are starting to trickle in, so this is my build thread. I'm looking for a solid 4x4 power plant for my 1990 Isuzu Trooper LS. I would like to have the option of supercharging it with 5-7psi boost, but not right now. Looking for advice on what bits to get, best practices, etc. I'd like to clear 200hp N/A.

    I have now:
    '93-'95 F-Body Short Block
    '98 3400 Heads (stock valves/springs), LIM, UIM
    '00+ 3400 UIM, EGR.
    56mm Throttle Body
    '02 3100 Wiring Harness

    I need... everything else...
    Fuel Rail
    Injectors (what flow?)
    Pistons (stock?)
    Cam & Lifters (Crane H260-2)
    Pushrods ('91 3.1L MPFI)
    Rockers/Studs (pre-'03 3400)
    Nuts and bolts
    Etc

If you can think of something I need, post it. If you have something you want to sell me, post or PM.

Think I'll have the LIM/UIM worked over by WOT.

Use the 2000+ plenum, the neck flows better. You need 3400 pistons unless you want 11+:1 compression. Cam you'll use the 3.4RWD style cam and lifters. Pushrods might need to be custom length. Rockers use the 3400 ones on the heads.

I might have just sourced some stock 3400 pistons from another member. Don't have any rockers yet, heads didn't come with any. Also missing most all the nuts and bolts to put it together. Brilliant.

Is the Comp Cams 252H cam still looking like something that will work good with this setup? I figured I'd just get the kit with the new timing gears/chain, lifters, springs, seals, etc.

        meh, that's pretty small..

the Crane H260-2 is a very good all around cam, good for boost and for mild N/A.

GM actually sells it as well.. a little cheaper then retail. I think this is the part number: 12364059

Does anyone know if the Felpro Head Gasket Set get me the latest revision graphite head gasket? Or will I need to get that as a GM part?

i think GM is the only one that sells the .060 graphite gaskets.. have Autozone check their ROL brand though.. they make the Camaro ones

also make sure that kit has the metal LIM gaskets. not the plastic ones.

We don't have Autozone around here. Just Napa, E&L (local store & machine shop), and a CarQuest just opened. Next city over has Shucks. We do have a GM dealer, and I know the parts guy, but I have a hard time getting down there on working hours.

Have a part #'s for the good stuff?

This thread made me wonder about SFI vs. MPFI on the hybrid. How much will I be hurting myself if I don't get a cam with the cam position lobe? Do the newer engines run SFI? Does it even matter?

SFI switches over to MPFI at WOT. The only thing you will loose by not running SFI is fuel mileage. With SFI, each injector is fired "sequentially", whereas in MPFI, they are fired in banks. So in MPFI, you are spraying fuel for 3 cylinders when only 1 needs it.

Of course I'd like to keep SFI if I can, but I suppose it's not a BIG deal. Is it common for "performance" cams to have the lobe omitted? Will the Crane H260-2 not have it?

Ordered the Crane H260-2 and lifters, so I get what I get...

Not engine related, but I also ordered a Limited Slip Diff. Sweet!
