    Measuring Engine Angle

    From what I've been reading, universal engine mounting angle is 3º rearward. I'm using a Gen-1 engine for my mockups, and I have a TBI manifold. Is the TBI base angled 3º frontward to make it level relative to the ground/frame - so if I throw a bubble on that I should be good?

      It is 4* exactly. You should make it level provided the frame is exactly level as well.

        Are the early Gen 1 carb manifolds and the Edelbrock Torker manifolds also built to 4°? Is it necessary to set an MPFI engine to 4°, as long as the angle matches the pinion angle?

        I'm planning a track roadster around an 89' Camaro 2.8 MPFI engine and 700R4 transmission. I've not yet decided for sure if I want to keep the MPFI setup, or go with a cleaner and more old-school looking carb setup...but if I can mount the engine level with the MPFI setup, that has definite layout advantages.

          From what I've read, three degrees is the standard.

            Any fuel injection system can be mounted at any angle. A carb should be as level as possible to maintain the correct fuel float level.

              Fuel injection yes, but also consider oil pickup and driveline angles.

                I hadn't thought about the oil pickup. Is that likely to be an issue with the engine mounted level? If it is an issue, what would be the minimum angle that would be safe?

                  I would assume everything was designed to operate at a 3-4 degrees. The oil pump and pickup are at the rear of the engine, so I certainly wouldn't tilt it forward... I would stick with the known 3-4 degrees.
