So, uh, WTF? (pic) and fuel line question

So I picked up my 3400 for my 89 GP Friday, and it has these weird abominations sticking out of the area around the exhaust ports on the heads. At first I thought they were EGR, but upon looking at them they look more like they are coolant passages that feed the heater core antifreeze from where it gets heated up the fastest....? Am I right? If so can I yank that garbage off and run a conventional style heater loop? Are the threads of the holes in the heads NPT? Anyone?

PS What did y'all do when it came to be time to hook up your quick connect fuel line from the new rail to the old screw in car lines?

the pic is kinda small, but i think those are airpipes. that would mean the motor is a california emmisions motor, and used an airpump. you can yank em right off, but i dont beleive the ports are pipe thread.

for fuel lines, most people cut off the quick connects from the 3400, cut the fuel lines that are on the old motor and join them with a compression fitting, so you have the screw together fittings on the 3400 fuel rails.

Sharkey is right about them being air tubing. Just get four 1/2-20 set screws to plug the holes. I used 1/2" long stainless ones in mine.
