ok i have a 94 cutlass sl 3.1, on my shifter i can drop it all the way down to 1st and when i take off even though its in 1st it'll still shift up to 2nd, is that normal, and could that be why my overdrive doesn't work?, it shifts 1 through 3rd fine but i have no 4th any help would be apreciated

This is normal, some will bump the rev limiter then shift, some just shift. Depends on the programing, its part of the anti-abuse.

You cant make it hold 1st to the rev limiter, it will shift into 2nd, and do it earlier than when in D. You will hold it in 2nd in L though and hit the limiter. I've done this on 1/4mile passes. What I did was keep it in D, take off, after the 1-2 shift bring it into L to hold 2nd longer than normal then upshift to D.sigpic

how come my overdrive ain't workin? its not throwing any codes and the other gears are working fine.

how do you know overdrive isnt working?? Or are you confusing this with torque lock.. thats common. Do you have a scan tool telling you its not going into 4th?

Lockup will work even in (D) at highway speeds. Put the shifter in (OD) and you'll have 4th.. Unless you have other problems? Not sure how your car is set up but mine is:
(OD) 1-4
(D) 1-3
(L) 1-2sigpic

i don't have a scanner or nuttin but the check engine light never came on, i think 4th is gone cause i never feel it shift and its doin 3400 rpms at 70
