    trans is gone :-(

yep, was on the way to nc, doing 70 with cruse on, all was fine, then all of a sudden 4th started slipping, was easy on it the rest of the way down, seemed like 2nd only slipped at WOT and 4th slipped any time it came out of torque lock up. brought it home and had it all checked out, all they told me was that the 3-4 clutchpack is about to go, something about it being at 4% and itll go out at 5%. so looks like im looking at a new trans since i cant afford a rebuild kit with the baby coming, and being layed off. shit like this always happens at the WORST time..
what would cause it to go out like that? its just crazy that it went that fast? no weird sounds, fluid is perfict, smells good, looks good. i just dont get it... any ideas?

Transmissions can do that. Just something lets go finally, or the slipping reaches the critical point. Sometimes though you can tell it's on it's way out and will hang in for a long time. A rebuild kit is cheap if you have time to do it yourself, otherwise it's about the same cost maybe cheaper sometimes to pick up a low mileage used trans from a scrapper depending on their prices.

I am guesing th epump shaft woreout and killed the support bearing which causes a nice pressure drop. 4th would be the first to go.
